Martin Sturman was born in Chicago, Illinois and graduated Loyola University School of Law (Chicago) in 1958. Martin moved to California in 1961 and practiced law in excess of 39 years, specializing in Estate Planning and Corporate Taxation. Martin is now retired from the law practice and devotes full time to sculpture.
Essentially, a “self taught” artist, Martin pursued his artistic career at UCLA, The California Art Institute, International Sculpture Center and Santa Monica College. Martin learned his technical skills, while practicing Law, by frequently working on the night shift of a client whose business was metal fabrication. Encouraged by various gallery owners Martin entered into juried competitions and ultimately received a number of major corporate commissions to successfully launch his sculpture career.
Martin and his sculptures have been profiled in:
- The Acorn Newspaper
- The Artist Magazine
- THE GUILD SOURCEBOOK OF ARCHITECTURAL & INTERIOR ART, ISSUES #8 THROUGH #24

Martin is also a featured artist in an article entitled “The Artist as Designer” published in edition #22 by THE GUILD SOURCEBOOK OF ARCHITECTURAL & INTERIOR ART distributed in fall, 2007.
